WEBTOON : Comics

This app is very good for reading Manwhas and a few comic books, however, the UI itself has a lot to improve on. For example, when you download Manwhas on your phone and you wish to delete a few read chapters, it will be wonderful to have the “select“ and “select all“ options, to make it easier to delete all or multiple chapters at once. Selecting them individually to delete or waiting to read all downloaded before deleting all is quite frustrating

I got logged out from this app but I thought it wasn't a big deal, since I just can log in. So did I thought, however I tried to log in again but it says my password is false even though I reset er it multiple times. So some odd reasons I can only log in via web which is kinda unpractical, because I want read it while being on the train etc. I wish I can end I just can be on this app without all of this.

Dear WEBTOON team, as a reader, as the name implies, I have downloaded your app a few years ago to read. To READ. Now the only reason this review is getting three stars at all is because of the amazing and passionate artists on your app. My minor point is the introduction of the ‘shorts’ format with voice overs to promote the webtoons. Annoying? Yes. But atleast it was still consistent with the rest of the app. I should’ve known that that was the gateway to actual shorts based on the webtoons with irl people. Webtoons are not the kind of story anyone would want to see in this format, because the format itself belongs to the trash. As a firm believer of ‘there are no bad concepts, just bad ways to realise them’ I am practically obligated to tell you that that short format ESPECIALLY filmed with irl people is (insert swear word). If professionals decide to make a movie or a series based on a webtoon, then that’s their business. They know what they’re doing. It’s their field. The results are usually pretty good. However, webtoon is making the mistake of trying to expand into other markets. If your performance is waning, it’s always better to improve anything and everything within your expertise than try and do low quality versions of things you don’t understand. Webtoon is supposed to be the reading portion of the stories. Consuming other media like movies or art and fanart relating to those is the fans’ business only. My very last point is the ai webtoons that have appeared as of recently. Art is probably the most accessible thing in the world. More than clean water and fresh air. All you need is dirt and a way to mark it in a way that genuinely aesthetically pleases you. E.g. by using your hand or a stick or by walking in patterns. I cannot fathom why webtoon would not do everything in their power to prevent the so called ai ‘artists’ from publishing their generated stuff. If someone really wants to tell a story, then they can learn to use words and draw pictures. It’s not alien to collaborate so that someone else can to the parts you’re bad at. A lot of webtoons have the author and the artist as separate people. The bare minimum is to recognise and flag ai usage. To my fellow readers: Let’s do our best to keep supporting the hard work going into the stories we love. The artists deserve it.

I’ve been using webtoon for almost a decade now, one of my favorite apps for reading comics. However, lately with every new update the app has been getting worse. The homepage doesn’t show me newly released episodes anymore and in the “unread series” section, it just tells me to ‘Find something to read on Home’. How counterintuitive is that? I now have to remember by myself which webtoon is updated on which day just to read new episodes. I hope webtoon can improve this factor soon as it’s affecting usability.
