Well researched, Beautifully written, thought-provoking- simply a very good newspaper
  • Best Newspaper Globally

The NYT is the absolute benchmark as well as for widespread as fof in depth and for investigative journalism. Others follow on places two and succeeding with a long gap between them and NYT. Please keep hanging on with your work.
  • Better Customisation Needed

This is not a commentary on the journalism, only the app: as an international reader I would prefer to be able to totally screen out most local US news, I have no interest whatsoever in obscure senate races etc.

The App is gering to the point where it becomes less usable because it uses way too much bandwith and disc space. Please create an option to disable video for Podcasts.

The new design of the app is horrible, I really don’t want short video content and audio content so prominently in the app. I use it to slow down from that. The you-page was amazing for me always but now without the photos shown it is an absolute displeasure. I’ve been a subscriber for 5 years and am considering to cancel my subscription because of this horrible UX design
  • shorts

I get a newspaper app to read a newspaper and not to get distracted by shorts. But as basically every App, also the NYT puts more money made by harming their users placing addictive short mechanisms in their face over offering a qualitative reading experience.
  • Finally 🙂

Update: since last update the elegant, semitransparent navigation bar’s scroll edge appearance is gone (“scrollEdgeAppearance”)! Thanks for the Liquid Glass update - which also solves an annoying visual glitch on iPhone Air! Phew… this was a long wait with no responses to any of my bug reports… but better late than never! 🫶
  • Doesn’t load - especially pictures

App does not load properly since over a year. No guidance how to fix it. I just use the online version instead. App is not worth the hassle.
  • Accessibility issue

I read in the app most days but since a recent update that’s became much more difficult: They introduced a coloured gradient at the top of the screen to house the navigation/toolbar. But when the toolbar disappears the gradient remains, so words blur towards the top of the screen. I need a sharp edge to align my eyes on. With the gradient there I no longer have this, and reading is significantly more strenuous. It may sound extreme but I‘m considering canceling my subscription.
  • Was ok until recent updates

As I’m trying to read the article, suddenly the text is blurred because I’d scrolled too much and the top of the screen is blurry now. It jumps down when I try to scroll back up because apparently it’s very important for me to see the New York Times logo, whose appearance make everything jump down half a mile. That’s when you realise that the button that shows the comments was also hidden in the little bar that was hidden, in the same no-finger’s land that’s the top of the screen, neighbouring the back button, now also out of reach unless your thumb is three inches long. I’m all for changes that make sense but these seem to do nothing but being an extra bullet point in some product manager’s CV.
